Is your hiring process successful in building diverse teams?

Poor selection skills and processes can result in homogeneous teams that may exhibit harmonious behavior but little in the way of innovative and successful results.  Emerging research confirms that high-performance teams must be comprised of diverse members.

This session is designed for the professional responsible for their organization’s recruiting and hiring practices.  Wayne State University Executive & Professional Development facilitators will cover topics including: Assessing Work Teams, Examining Personal Biases and Developing Targeted Recruiting & Interview Skills.  Participants will leave the session equipped with the knowledge and the complete workshop materials needed to offer the program, Selection Tools for Hiring Managers, to leaders at their organization.  Session materials will include a facilitator guide, a reproducible participant manual, handouts and PowerPoint presentation.

About the Michigan Diversity Council

Michigan is among the first states in the country to form a state affiliate of the National Diversity Council (NDC).  Launched in 2008, the National Diversity Council is a non-profit 501 (C)(3) organization that champions diversity as a business imperative. Current state councils include: Texas, Florida, California, New York, Ohio and most recently, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The Michigan Diversity Council (MIDC) is a resource in providing valuable learning opportunities to companies, employees and community members.  Launched in April 2009, this organization complements the existing diversity initiatives in Michigan by providing on-going learning opportunities, discussion and best-practice sharing among leading companies and diversity professionals.

The mission of the MIDC is to enhance the appreciation for and understanding of the value of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.  We serve as a resource for businesses seeking to develop their diversity and inclusion efforts and provide ongoing learning and best practice-sharing opportunities which:

·       Advance corporate leadership, education and awareness of the varied dimensions of diversity

·       Commit professionals to discuss issues, challenge attitudes and promote organizational change that supports diversity

·      Encourage a diverse Michigan talent pool through outreach efforts that connect youth entering the workforce with businesses

By cultivating the unique talents, experiences and backgrounds of current and future employees, Michigan businesses will be seen as leaders in the global marketplace, and our state will be regarded as a great place to live and work.

The NDC and the MIDC are member-driven organizations.  Programming, events and publications are developed and led by member companies/individuals.
